List of Cures

Our goal is to bring hope and healing to children with treatable physical disabilities. In the developing world, many untreated conditions seriously limit a child's ability to play, go to school and become a productive member of the community. By correcting their disabilities, we are able bring hope and joy back to their lives and enable them to led fully functioning lives. Below is a list of some of the conditions we treat.

Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is the buildup of too much cerebrospinal fluid in the brain causing the skull to expand. Normally, this fluid cushions the brain, however, when there is too much it puts harmful pressure on the brain. You can cure a child with hydrocephalus »

Clubfoot

Clubfoot is a congenital deformity in which the child's foot or feet are twisted and point down and inwards. Although it sounds simple, clubfoot complicates many children's lives, but you can cure a child with clubfoot »

Cleft Lip and Palate

Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth defects that affect the upper lip and roof of the mouth. They happen when the tissue that forms the roof of the mouth and upper lip don't join before birth. The problem can range from a small notch in the lip to a groove that runs into the roof of the mouth and nose. This can affect the way the child's face looks. It can also lead to problems with eating, talking and ear infections.

Burn Contractures

A burn contracture is scarring as a result of a severe burn. A contracture is a permanent tightening of skin that may affect the underlying muscles and tendons that limit mobility and possible damage or degeneration of the nerves. Contractures develop when normal elastic connective tissues are replaced with inelastic fibrous tissue. This makes the tissues resistant to stretching and prevents normal movement of the affected area.

Brain tumors

A brain tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue in which some cells grow and multiply uncontrollably, apparently unregulated by the mechanisms that control normal cells. The growth of a tumor takes up space within the skull and interferes with normal brain activity. A tumor can cause damage by increasing pressure in the brain, by shifting the brain or pushing against the skull, and by invading and damaging nerves and healthy brain tissue.

Tuberculosis of the Spine

Tuberculosis of the Spine is a disease in which the tuberculosis bacterium infects the spine, but CURE works to help treat children with spine disabilities.

Spina Bifida

Spina bifida is characterized by the incomplete development of the brain, spinal cord, and/or meninges, the protective covering around the brain and spinal cord, but CURE has a program that helps treat children with spinal deformities.

Osteomyelitis

Osteomyelitis is an infection in a bone. Infections can reach a bone by traveling through the bloodstream or spreading from nearby tissue. Infections can also begin in the bone itself if trauma exposes the bone to germs.
