The CURE Center for Orthopedic Specialties in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic serves as a referral center for children with disabilities and deformities from all over the country and occasionally beyond. The hospital also operates a clinic on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, which provides outreach, referral and follow-up services to the local community and Haitian refugees who have settled there.

The spiritual ministry team is an active part of the hospital, providing spiritual care and healing to patients and their families.

The Dominican Republic is known for its beautiful beaches and resorts. What most people don’t know about is that poverty rates are some of the highest in Latin America. Although GDP is 2/3 of what it is in Mexico, the vast majority of the wealth is captured by only the upper 10% of the country’s population leaving the lower half of the population with almost nothing. It is estimated that there are over 400,000 Dominicans with disabilities, many of them children coming from the poor families without access to healthcare. Unlike North America, there are very few support networks or social services that offer help and hope for the disabled. The public hospitals are in deplorable condition. Access to any quality healthcare for the poor is very limited.

Because of the compassionate and high-quality care provided by the CURE International hospital, many disabled children are now having the opportunity to experience walking, running, and even smiling for the first time in their lives.
