CURE International began providing medical care for disabled children in San Pedro Sula Honduras in 2004. Dr. Gustavo Vasquez, CURE's Medical Director, operates weekly clinics in area hospitals. CURE also regularly sends teams of American physicians, nurses, physical therapists and dentists to provide care and perform surgery. Each team treats about 100 children and performs about 40 surgeries.   Click here to read updates about this year's June 2008 Medical and Dental team.

Since the inception of its work in Honduras, CURE has provided medical care for more than 4,800 children and performed more than 600 surgeries. CURE has recently entered into an agreement to construct a new pediatric orthopedic teaching hospital in San Pedro Sula. This new hospital is expected to be operational in 2007.

On average, each month CURE staff provides medical care to approximately 220 children on an outpatient basis, performs about 35 surgeries, conducts 10 or more outreach clinics and treats 25 children disabled with clubfeet using the "Ponseti" method.

Thanks to two generous donations, the dream of a stand alone hospital is about to become reality. A businessman in Honduras has donated the land for the new hospital and Rick Melson, a residential homebuilder from Florida, has agreed to be the project manager, providing seed money and lending his 35 years of construction expertise to the project. In addition to these contributions, a group of local architects and engineers have agreed to donate their time to prepare the architectural plans for the facility. Construction began in late fall 2007.

CURE International is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Donations and contributions are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
