Sometimes healing a child can bring about transformation in a parent as well. When Mary Phiri was born with severely deformed legs, her mother was left feeling scared and helpless. Mrs. Phiri was bewildered because all her other children had been born without any problems.

At just a day old, little Mary was taken into surgery. The surgery was successful and casting really changed the condition of her legs, much to her mother's joy. However, as the years passed, new problems began to arise. Mary began to crouch down when she was walking, keeping her legs bent. Again, Mrs. Phiri was overcome with worry and did not know what to do to help her child.

In January of 2006, Mary was finally referred to CURE. At CURE, Dr. Lubega diagnosed her as having Bilateral Knee Flexion Contractures and booked her to have a major operation which released the contructures in both legs.

Both Mary and her mother were blessed by their stay at the CURE hospital. Mary was blessed physically while her mother was blessed spiritually. "I have seen God's hand upon my child," says Mrs. Phiri. Mrs. Phiri, who had stopped praying and going to church for some time, reached a turning point after seeing how God used CURE to help her child. "The prayers offered here are very important because they encourage one whose condition seemed to be impossible but in return becomes possible," she says smiling.
